Disable error reporting in Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP I’m sure you must be familiar with this dialog. It’s just another annoyance of Windows XP when it’s not happy. Just to keep us happy we’ll see how we can get rid of these, at times, annoying popups.

Step-1:

Click on the Start button.

Step-2:

Right click on “My Computer” and click on “Properties”.

Step-3:

On the “System Properties” dialog click on the “Advanced” tab.

Step-4:

Click on the “Error Reporting” button at the bottom of the dialog.

Step-5:

Windows will popup with a “Error Reporting” dialog box. On that dialog box click on “Disable error reporting” option. You can check or uncheck the “But notify me when critical errors occur” option depending on your preference.

Step-6:

Click the “OK” button to dismiss all the dialog boxes.

From now on, Windows won’t bother you much when it’s not happy (when a program crashes etc.). To get the notifications back follow the same steps but make sure to click on the “Enable error reporting” option on the Error Reporting dialog box.
