Print portions of web pages with HP Smart Web Printing add-on

Use HP Smart Web Printing tool to print portions of web pages and help save the environment by reducing paper usage.

Everyone is talking about saving the environment and going green. One step toward green environment is to reduce the usage of papers. Papers are hugely wasted when printing web pages on its entirety. There are so many elements on a web page that we really wouldn’t need but unnecessarily gets printed. Of course, there are some websites that provide a printer-friendly versions but again not all websites offer this capability.

Irrespective of whether a website offers a printer-friendly version or not you can print exactly what you want on a web page using HP Smart Web Printing tool. It supports both Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher and Firefox 2.0.

Follow these steps to make use of HP Smart Web Printing tool in Internet Explorer 7,

Step-1: Download and install HP Smart Web Printing tool

Download and install the HP Smart Web Printing add-on. Make sure to close all the web browsers before installing this tool.

Step-2: Launch the web browser

Once installed, when you launch Internet Explorer you’ll notice a “Clip Book” window on the right side of the browser. “Clip Book” window lists the page clips and lets you print selected page clips.

Step-3: Clip the web page

Click on the “HP Smart Select” tool on the IE Toolbar.

Now, select the portion of the page you want to clip. Just draw a rectangle around the portion of the page that you want to clip and when a menu pops-up click on the “Clip…” menu option.

You should be able to see the clips on the “Clip Book”.

Step-4: Print Web Clips

Select the clips and click the Print button

Select the clips that you want to print and click the “Print” button.

There are settings that you can change to check for updates and if you’d prefer to collect the clips without having them selected.

    Unfortunately it doesn’t works with FireFox!!!

    Eddie – I agree that it doesn’t work nice with Firefox 3.0 & later and on Mac. I’ve heard that HP will put out an update later next month to fix this issue. Until then, IE :(

    Also, IE 8 might not be in bed with the HP Smart Web Printing add-on. Here is a workaround
