Enable automatic logon in Windows Vista

Configure Windows Vista to allow automatic logon.

If you are the only user on your computer and you don’t share your computer with anyone else then you can configure Windows Vista to automatically logon without an username and password. Even though it’s a bit convenience, you should keep in mind that this might pose a security risk and you should enable automatic logon in Windows Vista only if you are sure that your computer is safe or if you don’t keep any important data in your computer.

Follow these steps to configure Windows Vista to allow automatic logon,

Step-1: Netplwiz

Netplwiz

Type-in NETPLWIZ on the Start menu Search box and press the Enter key.

Step-2: User Accounts dialog

User Accounts dialog

Click thru the UAC prompt and Windows Vista will popup User Accounts dialog. Select the username for which you want to enable automatic logon. Then uncheck the “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” option.

Step-3: Restart the computer

Windows Vista will prompt for the password. Key-in the password and allow Windows Vista to restart the computer.

Once restarted Windows Vista will allow you to automatically logon to the computer without an username and password. I just want to re-iterate that this could pose a security risk and so this option should only be enabled if you are the only user of your computer or you don’t care much about the security of your computer.
