Reliably split larger files into smaller distributable size with GSplit
GSplit helps you split larger files into smaller files.
Have a large file to share? Couldn’t distribute a file of larger size? Have email upload restrictions from your ISP? No worries. GSplit is a simple program that helps you split larger files into smaller chunks so that you can share and distribute them pretty easily. On the receiving end you can unite those smaller files to reconstruct the original file by executing a small EXE file. It is as simple as that.
Follow these steps to visualize splitting and uniting a sample PDF file of approximately 20 MB,
Step-1: Download and install GSplit
Download and install GSplit from GDGSoft.
Step-2: Launch GSplit
Once installed launch GSplit.exe.
Step-3: Load the Source file to split
Load the file that you want to split by clicking on the “Browse…” button.
Step-4: Start the Split operation
Once the file got loaded you can start the split process by clicking on the “Split” button at the top of the window.
Step-5: Verify the split files
The source file will be split in multiple pieces as GSD files. Verify that the number of files on the GSplit window matches the actual number of files split.
If you notice that the approximately 20 MB file is split into 7 pieces of approximately 3 MB (except the last one). You can adjust the size of these pieces on GSplit settings.
Step-6: Unite the split files
If you look at the screenshot on Step-5 you’ll notice the DISK1.EXE file. Yes, GSplit creates an executable file that you can supply with your splitted files so that the pieces can be reconstructed. Launch DISK1.EXE and click on the “Browse…” button to specify the location and name of the file to be united. Click on the “Unite” button. GSplit will reconstruct the split files into the original file and will acknowledge with a success message.
Step-7: Verify the united file
It would be a good idea to open the new file to make sure that the file is intact.
GSplit can work with a wide variety of files including zip archives, disk images, multimedia files, music files, video files, backup files, images, archive files, log files, large text files, document files etc. Also, GSplit can work with really large files that are more than 4 GB in size.
I hope you find GSplit useful to distribute and share really large files. If you have any questions/comments please let us know in comments.
