Gmail now allows you to search the web without moving away from Gmail.

Gmail has introduced yet another useful feature at its Labs corner, Google Search within Gmail. What that means is that you don’t have to open up another tab/window to do a Google search. With Google Search within Gmail you can now search the web within Gmail itself.

When you enable “Google Search” within Gmail option, Gmail will place a mini Google Search box on Gmail sidebar which when entered a search query (and, of course pressed the Enter key) will display the search result as a popup pane within the same window.

After couple of searches, If you notice on your Sidebar you should be able to realize that the Google Search feature within Gmail keeps a simple history of your most recent searches, so you can get to those result sets without typing the query again.
