Use your browser to chat with your Windows Live Contacts

Windows Live Web Messenger for Hotmail makes it easy to chat with your Windows Live friends without installing any software.

For those of you who couldn’t install a Messenger software like Windows Live Messenger on your work computer or may be on a public computer (like in an Internet Cafe) you’ll certainly like this latest release from the Windows Live Team that would enable you to chat with your Windows Live or Hotmail or MSN friends using your web browser. No software installation is needed.

If you live in USA, UK, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico or Spain you should be able to make use of Windows Live Web Messenger. Even though India is not on the list of countries that this feature has been rolled out to I’ve heard that people in India were able to see this feature enabled.

Then click on the “Sign in to Messenger (Web)” option to make use of the Windows Live Web Messenger. Once signed-in you should be able to see a menu option “View Messenger contacts“.

When you click on it you’ll be taken to the Windows Live Web Messenger page where you can see all your IM contacts.

Contacts will be color coded to distinguish between their online statuses and if it’s green colored then you should be able to chat with your contact without leaving the web browser. This would be really handy when you have restrictions installing software on your computer like at work or at public locations. I hope you find it useful and if you have any questions/comments please let us know in comments.
