How to install Internet Explorer on Mac OSX?

Install Internet Explorer on Mac OSX with this simple hack.

Even though we all hate Internet Explorer 6 let’s just accept the fact that it’s not going to go away anytime soon (even though there are campaigns around to kill it) and there are many websites that are still IE6 friendly and that means we have a hard time using those websites on any of the modern browsers.

Since many corporate internal websites are more of IE6 friendly this would become an annoying issue if you have to deal with those internal websites from your home using Mac.

No worries, with ies4osx you can get Internet Explorer 6 on your Mac OSX computer.

You need 2 applications to get IE6 on your Mac.

Move Darwine to Mac Applications folder.png

Go ahead and download Darwine from here. Mount the .dmg file and move the app to the Applications folder.

Once Darwine is installed go ahead and download ies4osx. It’s a .zip file and so you have to extract the zip file and launch ies4osx.

    Hey Demo Geek!

I'm using Mac OS 10.4.11 and after downloading both aps as instructed I get a message stating ie4osx.app isn't compatible with my system. Was the application made for an OS after Tiger and is there another way for me to get IE on my Mac? Thanks for your help!

Hi Michael – I doubt that IE4OSX works on Tiger. Since I don't have Tiger (tried it on Leopard and worked) I'm not in a position to claim that boldly. Please give me some more time and I'll do my best to answer your questions. Thanks!

Hi! I am not a techno-chick whatsoever, but your instructions were easy to understand and I was able to successfully install IE4OSX on my macbook. My new job access only uses IE and so this is going to be great help. Thank you!

Hey my name is Crysten and I'm in online college. Was trying to get a work-at-home job and to test my computer for compatability with their system I had to have IE6. I have a macbook and I know it runs OSX. I've tried from three different sites to download WineBottler and it won't save to my computer it says "the following disk images could not be recognized". I would really like to apply for this job but I'm just having a really hard time with this, as I have only had my Mac for a couple of months. Any suggestions?

Crysten – is your Mac Intel based? I was able to successfully download and open the file on an Intel based MacBook.
