Windows Phone Custom Theme Creator is an official service from Microsoft that helps you easily create custom themes for your Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. That means you don’t have to jail-break your phone to make use of custom themes. Creating a theme is as simple as doing couple of clicks.

Once in there you’ll have to choose the phone that you want the custom theme to be applied. Actually the service won’t apply the theme directly but it asks for the phone model so it can create the theme files accordingly. Currently the "Verizon HTC Imagio", "AT&T HTC Pure" and ‘Sprint Samsung Intrepid" phones are supported but support for more phones would be added as it becomes available.

Once you choose the phone look for the "Color Your Phone" link at the top of the page. Click on that link and you’ll be presented with a page where you’ll see 3 different pages of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. Choose the page that you feel more comfortable to work with.

You can also use the "Portrait" or "Landscape" buttons at the bottom of the screen to choose the orientation.

You could also notice the "Color" chooser pallette at the top of the page. You can choose any of the pre-defined colors or you can choose the last pallette to define you own color.

This page would allow you to upload an image to be used as the wallpaper, size and position the wallpaper, adust the color settings, adjust the contrast settings and choose the effects that you want to apply to the wallpaper.

You can use the "Size/Position" button to reveal the above page where you can flip, rotate and resize the wallpaper.

You can use the "Color" button to adjust the "Hue", "Saturation" and "Tint" factors of the wallpaper.

You can use the "Contrast" button to adjust the contrast and brightness of the wallpaper image.

You can use the "Effects" button to apply different effects to the wallpaper including emboss, monochromatic, invert color, blur and cartoonize.

That’s all to creating custom theme for your Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. Once created you have to send the theme file to your mobile phone to apply the theme there. You can do this by either sending it over to the phone as a SMS message or you can use ActiveSync to transfer the theme information to your Windows Mobile 6.5 phone.

Click on the "Save" button and select a folder on your local computer where you want the theme to be saved. Remeber the theme file will be saved as ".cab" file. Use Microsoft ActiveSync to transfer the ".cab" file to your mobile phone. After the transfer completes navigate to the ".cab" file on your mobile phone and tap on the file to extract it. Then tap the "Start" button and then the "Settings" button and then tap on the "Today" link. When asked to select a theme choose the theme that you’ve just un-cabbed.

Receive theme information via SMS message

Enter your mobile phone number and hit the "Send" button. You’ll receive an SMS message that contains a link to download the ".cab" file. Tap on the link and download the ".cab" file to your "My Documents" folder on your phone. Click on the ".cab" file to extract the theme information from the ".cab" file. Then tap on the "Start" button and then on the "Settings" button and then on the "Today" link. You’ll be prompted to choose a theme and make sure to choose the above un-cabbed theme file.
